Percussionists Only: Mark Wessels, A fresh Approach to Mallets
Mark Wessels, a Fresh Approach to Snare, 5 Minute theory (Mark Wessels)
II. A Quality Band Instrument
A Good quality used or New Name Brand instrument from a reputable music store will help insure that your student has a positive experience. Some instruments, like cars, will never do well no matter who is playing/driving them.

Oboe: Rent from the School on the first day of summer band. *Take private lessons over summer - no summer band needed.
Accessories: Cork Grease, 2 quality reeds made by your oboe teacher, cleaning swab
Bassoon: Rent from the School on the first day of summer band *Take private lessons over summer. No summer band needed.
Saxophone: Start on Clarinet. 2nd semester we will have auditions then you rent a saxophone from a music store.
Clarinet Brands: *Yamaha Advantage, Vito (newer models), Jupiter
Accessories Fobes Debut mouthpiece (should come with instrument rental from Summerhayes or Riverton for no charge, Mouthpiece Patch, Swab (for Cleaning), Cork Grease, thumb rest, and 4-5 reeds: 2 ½ Strength B-flat Mitchell Lurie Clarinet Reeds.
Bass Clarinet: Start on Clarinet
Trumpet Brands: *Yamaha, Jupiter, Getzen, King.
Bach 7C Mouthpiece and a trumpet kit (should contain the following: Mouthpiece Brush, Valve oil (Blue Juice or Al Cass Recommended), Cleaning Snake, Polishing Cloth, Slide grease)
French Horn: Start on Trumpet and rent a French horn from the school later in the year.
Saxophone: Start on Clarinet: rent a Saxophone in January after auditions
Trombone Brands: *Yamaha, King, Conn, Jupiter
Accessories: *Bach 6 1/2 AL Mouthpiece, Yamaha “Trombone Slide Lubricant” (in a purple and white container), mouthpiece brush, small water spray bottle (from Walmart is fine), Cleaning Snake, Slide Grease.
Baritone/Tuba: Rent from North Davis Junior High the first day of Summer Band.
Accessories: Al Cass Slide Oil, Slide Grease, Mouthpiece Brush, Cleaning Snake, Polishing Cloth.
Percussion: Standard Bell Kit with *Vic Firth SD1 General Snare Sticks and Yellow or Orange Yamaha Rubber Mallets: NOT the black plastic ones that play too loud (Summerhays and Riverton Music will trade out the mallets for free if you ask them). Be sure to get a case that works for your student. Backpack, wheeled, and handbag versions of cases are available.
